Disability Commission backs Gallagher Park access plan

FRAMINGHAM — The Disability Commission voted 4-0 to support an accessible redesign of Gallagher Park. Evan Thuz-Wassel of Grant Street, with Parks and Recreation as co-applicant, plans a Community Preservation Committee request due Oct. 1 for a design firm, which he estimated at $30,000 to $50,000. His concept includes a half-circle path, two garden beds, and benches and picnic tables.

Commissioners urged accessible parking, lighting and early work with the ADA coordinator. The panel also voted 4-0 to accept a donated picnic table for Cushing Park and cover a $100 delivery fee. Member Michael Higgins called the donation process "very frustrating." Members set a July 6 flag raising at City Hall, a July 9 movie night and an Oct. 6 resource fair.
