FRAMINGHAM — The Framingham Disability Commission voted unanimously to oppose a zoning variance for a six-unit project at 105 Irving Street after developers failed to appear or provide engineering evidence for skipping accessible units. Members also confronted Parks and Recreation after learning beach wheelchairs went undeployed all season; one member said "we're not here to just fill some diversity quota," objecting to a liability waiver posted without commission review that could have held users responsible for up to $3,500 in chair damage and required an "able adult" present for any user under 18. The commission voted to send a letter to the Architectural Access Board over long-broken elevators at a property members called "the 990 property," headed to an October 1 hearing.
Members approved $1,500 for outreach swag at the October 3 Framingham Fest, welcomed new commissioner Matthew Strumpf, and tabled the treasurer's report pending reconciliation of unspent project funds. Officer elections were pushed to September.
