FRAMINGHAM — The Framingham Board of License Commissioners voted 2-3 to deny KP's bid for 2 a.m. Friday closing hours. Owner Wesley Silva, making his third request, said the Waverly Street bar had doubled its bouncer staff and spent nearly $5,000 on compliance work since a prior review.
Lieutenant Moore of the Framingham Police Department testified that KP generated 35 calls for service between January 10 and August 29, with 54 percent occurring between midnight and 3 a.m., and said overnight crews are already stretched thin. District 8 Councilor John Stefanini urged the board to grant parity with six other Friday 2 a.m. licensees, but Commissioners Sturniolo and McCullough and Chair Stuart Pologe voted no, outweighing yes votes from Commissioners Medrano and DeAngelis. Sturniolo, a retired police sergeant, said his former department's switch from a 2 a.m. to a 1 a.m. closing time in the 1980s showed "the night calmed down a lot."
