Framingham Selectmen Pledge Transition Order After City Charter Vote Passes

FRAMINGHAM — April 5, 2017 — Framingham selectmen begin governing under charter transition after city vote. The day after more than 11,000 voters approved converting Framingham from a town to a city form of government, the Board of Selectmen met April 5 to outline transition priorities, including appointing a seven-member bylaw-review committee within 30 days and seeking Town Counsel guidance on the board's authority through January 1, 2018, when the first mayor and city council take office. The board voted 4-0 to table the appointment of Esther Powell to the Fair Housing Committee pending that legal guidance, and 4-0 to approve a common victual license for EM Pancakes DBA IHOP at 17 Edgell Road — with the restaurant targeting an opening around April 20 subject to final inspections. The board also approved Peter Castello as new manager of record and Joseph Slaysar as assistant manager at Framingham Beer Works, and received a presentation on approximately two dozen DPW construction projects for the 2017 season, with Waverly Street mill and overlay work described as the most visible project pending town meeting funding.
