Framingham merges Veterans Day events into one Nov. 11 gathering
Framingham is combining its Veterans Day ceremony and lunch into a single event Nov. 11 at the Memorial Building, with registration due Nov. 3 and attendance capped at 175.
The City of Framingham announced Oct. 15 that it will combine its annual Veterans Day Ceremony and Veterans Day Lunch into a single event on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The ceremony, previously held separately from the lunch, will begin at 11 a.m. in the Rotunda of the Memorial Building, 150 Concord Street. The city said the ceremony is moving to the rotunda, where it has been held before, to accommodate setup for the luncheon that follows in Historic Nevins Hall, inside the same building.
Doors for the lunch open at 12:15 p.m., with the meal served at 12:30 p.m. Registration is required and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with attendance limited to 175 people. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 11:59 p.m., or earlier if capacity is reached.
Veterans and Gold Star widows and widowers may attend free of charge, as can spouses of veterans age 55 and older, thanks to the Callahan Center. Non-veterans may attend for a $25 fee, which must be paid by Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. to receive a meal. Attendees choose between chicken parmesan or a vegetarian stir-fry, with beverages and dessert included.
The Framingham Public Library Division will provide entertainment and dessert for the luncheon, and the Friends of the Callahan Center and FJ Luxury Flowers will supply centerpieces. Non-veterans can pay by cash or check at the Mayor's Office, Room 213, at the Memorial Building, the Veterans Services Office or the Callahan Center.
Community members, including veterans, must complete the online lunch registration form, providing contact information, age status, veteran status and branch of service, and meal choice.
Before the 11 a.m. ceremony, the Veterans Council will host a tour of veterans markers in Framingham.
