City Council · Meeting of April 21, 2026

FRAMINGHAM — The Framingham City Council voted 10-0 to take the Franklin Street garage site by eminent domain. The order covers 97 Franklin Street, about 1.165 acres, with damages capped at $2,712,500. Officials said the city will bond for the land purchase, while the state is expected to provide $8 million for construction and $2.5 million for design.

A resident argued the downtown lot should be used for housing or retail. Councilors also approved a five-year EV charging contract 6-4 and Lincoln Street EV parking 5-4 with one abstention. The mayor said the omission of the council from World Cup planning was "my job" and that he took "the blame."
